Updates
Updating a running instance
Apply OS security updates on your running EC2 instance using standard Ubuntu tooling:
# Update package index and apply all available updates
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
# Apply security updates only
sudo unattended-upgrade -d
Updating Docker Engine
To upgrade Docker Engine to the latest version:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install --only-upgrade docker-ce docker-ce-cli containerd.io docker-compose-plugin
Verify the new version:
docker --version
docker compose version
Migrating to a new AMI version
When NebulaImage publishes a new AMI version, it reflects updated base OS packages and software versions. To adopt a new version:
- Launch a new EC2 instance from the updated AMI
- Migrate your workload (containers, volumes, configuration) to the new instance
- Update your DNS or load balancer to point to the new instance
- Terminate the old instance once you have confirmed the new one is working
Running instances are not automatically updated to new AMI versions. You choose when to migrate.
Checking for new versions
New AMI versions are listed on the AWS Marketplace product page for NebulaImage Docker. Check the version history tab for release notes describing what changed.
